Hi, I'm Colin Green, the artist behind Broke Canvas. My work reflects a lifelong passion for bold, unconventional expression deeply rooted in nostalgia and street culture. From a young age, I was always drawing—on books, desks, and newspapers—transforming everyday objects into canvases. That instinct never left me. Today, I bring that same creative energy to unique materials like thrifted books, newspapers, cardboard, and anything else I can get my hands on, turning these found objects into art imbued with history and individuality.
My artistic journey began early. Self-taught and endlessly curious, I grew up glued to shows like Art Attack and infused creativity into everything I did. By my teenage years, I was freelancing in graphic design, honing my skills and exploring my artistic voice. Ultimately, I chose trade school over art school and worked for years as an auto mechanic. But during the COVID-19 pandemic, I rediscovered my love for art, reigniting the spark I had set aside since high school.
This new chapter has allowed me to combine digital and traditional techniques, creating vibrant, illustrative works inspired by street art and graffiti. The name Broke Canvas represents both my creative ethos and approach to art. Like graffiti artists who "steal" walls for their work, I embrace the idea of reclaiming unconventional spaces for creativity—whether it's a worn-out book or a discarded tool. My art celebrates impermanence, rebellion, and accessibility, challenging traditional notions of what art can be while telling stories of transformation and resourcefulness.
Through my bold, nostalgic creations, I aim to connect with people on a deeper level, showing them the beauty in the unconventional and the overlooked.
